LAW ENFORCEMENT Chief Tommy W. Tunson has more than 14 years' experience as a police chief and 32 years in law enforcement. In 2013, he retired as the Chief of Police in Arvin, California. He continues to be a leader and advocate for law enforcement and believes in the development of an organizational environment that fosters efficient delivery of police services. Chief Tunson graduated from the Riverside County Sheriff Academy where he worked as a Deputy Sheriff for many years. Chief Tunson has worked every aspect of law enforcement from narcotics to traffic to patrol to homicide and been police chief in 4-California cities.
DECORATED VETERAN Tommy was honored to serve his country for more than 33 years. His assignments included; Provost Marshal, (military chief of police), Asst. Sec. General Staff Officer, General's Aide, Company Commander, and Emergency Preparedness Homeland Defense Officer. He is a Vietnam Era veteran, Desert Storm veteran, Graduate of the Army's Command and General Staff College, Infantry and Military Police Schools. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, & Southwest Asia Service ribbons.
EDUCATOR He has an established career of excellence as a law enforcement trainer and educator. Tommy holds a Doctorate in Business Management, a Jurist Doctorate, a Masters of Public Administration and a Bachelors in Business. He was the Department Chair for the Criminal Justice Department at California Southern University, Irvine, California. He has taught in the criminal justice program for the University of Phoenix. He served as Interim Director of Fire Technology (Public Safety Training Programs) at Bakersfield College and continues to teach in higher education.
